We had a fun and "cool" visit for a week in the city with stop overs to our folks in Philly & Eastern Shore
Ellis Island We tried to mix fun stops for the girls with learning...
Took the ferry ride, stopped at the S. of Liberty but the inside of the statue is "closed"
- a limited number of time passes for inside the stone base of the statue are available from
the ferry company each day on a first-come, first-served basis. Time passes are not needed to visit the grounds of Liberty
Island. must Resv ahead of time...
- All of Ellis Island immigration museum is open
It was added to the National Park System in May of 1965 and through extensive restoration, its
main building opened over a quarter century later on September 10, 1990 as a national museum of immigration. Ellis Island
is federal property partly within the territorial jurisdiction of the both the States of New York and New Jersey. Visit the official Ellis Island website.

| Visitors Center at 108 Orchard St. (below Delancey) |
We met a costumed interpreter playing a young girl, Victoria Confino. She lived in the tenement at
97 Orchard in 1916.
We traveled back in time, pretending to be newly-arrived immigrants talking with Victoria.
Along with talking to Victoria, we handled and discuss period artifacts...
Victoria Confino, upper right, and friends
Perfect for kids and families, this "living history" apartment is based on the Sephardic-Jewish
Confino family from Kastoria (once part of the Ottoman Empire, now in Greece). A costumed interpreter dressed as teenage
Victoria Confino circa 1916 welcomes visitors as though they were newly arrived immigrants, teaching them how to adapt to
America. The Confino tour is a hands-on experience and visitors can touch any items in the apartment.
