Your Roots Are Showing is pleased to present a month with Magnolia Electric Co. Beginning Sunday the 2nd of August at 6PM EST, the band will ROCK the very foundations of The Loft as they become The Roots In Residence artist each week. This is a segment on Your Roots Are Showing which allows some of our favorite artists to come in, pick a few songs to play and perform some of their own tunes, live for our very own ears. Magnolia Electric Co has saved lives, souls and ears throughout the years. Their music is a salve that seeps into every crack, corner and pore of the listener. It might hurt a little at first, but soon the beauty becomes apparent. Frontman Jason Molina crafts dark stories that he projects with a voice that you could snuggle under like a blanket and the band supports him with full force. Their new album, Josephine, exploded into the world just a few weeks ago. On the day of its release, Magnolia Electric Co. came into The Loft and recorded their session. We won’t lie, lives were changed, spectators danced and at least one person cried a little (and admitted it). Be prepared for Your Roots Are Showing to transform into a honky-tonk in a ghost town as Magnolia Electric Co. serves as The Roots In Residence. We might as well order drinks and keep the tab open because once Magnolia Electric Co starts to play, you won’t be able to go anywhere. Now... most women would take this as a cue to skedaddle to
the nearest hair salon and have a chat with a her beautician.
At The Loft, no chemicals are needed. We like to
keep things pure, 'specially when it comes to our music.
From the first banjo sprinkled note to the final whine
of the pedal steel, Your Roots are Showing is dedicated to sounds that twang in a good way. For an hour every week we'll embark
on an exploration of modern music that sips from the jugs of country, folk, blues and rock 'n roll to form something that
can't be defined by any fancy schmansy "genre." It's music that feels like a summer campfire twinkling beneath an endless
sky of sparkling stars. Music that creeps beneath your skin, and burrows deep inside your ears, mind, and heart.
It lingers like a smoldering glance from a winking, passing stranger. Most importantly, it is music *proud* to bare
it's roots.
Now, only one question remains - Are you ready for the
country? Because it's time for us to go...
