God's Perfect Timing

Each Sunday morning, just as the Pastor began his sermon, David Hyden began mowing his yard which was next door to the church. He didn’t care that the mower’s noise was distracting the congregation and it’s Pastor; he just wanted to get the mowing done before Sports Center came on ESPN...God sometimes calls the most unlikely into his service and blesses those that will listen…..

It wasn’t too long after this that God used David to make music for Him rather than making noise to annoy His people. This same David Hyden became a Christian, then a worship leader and now a CCM recording artist.

A talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist considered by many to be one of the best-kept secrets in the Christian Rock music, Hyden gained his musical skill from his early non-Christian environments.

“I spent years on the road playing Heavy Metal in bars, living the Rock-N-Roll lifestyle that society idolizes and it pulled me down just like all of the rest,” Hyden says.  “Realizing what was happening to me; I escaped and tried to straighten myself out. I put music out of my life because of what it had done. However, I still wasn’t turning to God for help.”

He and his wife, Teresa, met years before they married. David was playing Rock-N-Roll while Teresa was managing a Rock-N-Roll bar and bartending. God’s perfect timing brought them together when they began to turn to Him.

“We both were lonely, sick and tired; broken and scared. We turned to God when misery and failure seemed to be everywhere in our lives. God saved us together and it has made all of the difference to see the miracles He has done in our lives,” Hyden says.

After confessing Jesus as his savoir, Hyden’s dormant musical gifts awakened. He began to see God move in a powerful way as he entered a new season in his life. He began playing in worship bands and finding a whole new world of positive rock music.

“It was as if God was preparing me for this all along,” Hyden says. “Suddenly I felt more inspired and began writing songs that were immediately embraced by my church family. I was being asked to perform the songs outside of my church. I was playing as a guest at other churches, weddings and soon I knew these songs needed to be recorded.”

“When recording began, I had some friends come in to help. However, I was overwhelmed with the feeling that God had given me this talent and He wanted me to do it myself, so I did.”

Hyden sings all the vocals and plays all the instruments except drums on every song. An acquaintance of Hyden’s from church, Josh Grossnickle, an expert drummer and sound engineer, plays drums on all of the tracks. The recordings were done in Hyden’s brother Glen’s private studio. Glen Hyden also co-produced and engineered the project.

Hyden’s song, “Forever Everywhere,” tells the story of how it felt when he “cleared and opened his heart to God.” He correlates this to the scripture in David’s Song of Praise from 2 Samuel and Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:

2 Samuel 22:4-7 David’s Song of Praise

4 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.  5 "The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.  6 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.  7 In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God.  From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.

Matthew 11:28 - 30

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Several of Hyden’s songs were written at the family kitchen table. He would develop lyrics, chords and melodies and then bounce it off of Teresa. She would recommend changes, additional parts or a loving “that’s terrible, try again.” As a team, they nurture each song until it grows to fruition.

One such song, “Miracles,” is a dual guitar harmony driven anthem with an exciting message about the "everyday miracles" we all take for granted. Another is the acoustic guitar stomp, “My King,” which sings of turning from despair to joy when finding a relationship with Christ.

What David Hyden has to say comes out of a servant's heart and a desire to draw people closer to God. "I’m reaching out to those who are new to this “God thing.” Those who like me, were always looking for that next big thing that would make it all better….. If I had more money, if I had a better job, if I looked more attractive…..never realizing that what we were searching for is right before us. Material things of this world never bring happiness for long. When someone sees the happiness a relationship with God can bring, they suddenly feel foolish for chasing the world. I want to help those people to see the glory of God in that way through my music.”

Whenever I call
You're already here
Wherever I go You're already there
Forever, Everywhere......
