Flamingo Ladies League Rules 2009-10 

1. GENERAL: The Flamingo Ladies Bowling League shall consist of all women bowlers with 8 teams and 4 bowlers per team (which allows a 5 woman rotation). No pacers will be allowed. All members shall be sanctioned by the USBC and dues ($20.00) must be paid on the first night she bowls. The league rules shall be approved by the members and once they have been adopted, there will be no changes, except with the approval of the Board of Directors (officers and team captains). A quorum shall be 3/4 of the members for transaction of league business.

2. SCHEDULE: Bowling will begin promptly at 6:50 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009 and will continue weekly through Monday, April 12, 2010. There will be a split season with 15 weeks in each half, a position round at the end of each half, and a No-Tap Tournament (April 12, 2010) a total of 31 weeks. At the end of the 2nd half, the 1st place teams from each half will bowl a 3 game roll-off based on the leagues 5 point scoring to determine League Champion, held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

3. HANDICAP: This is a handicap league. Handicap shall be figured on 100% of the difference between the bowler’s average and 200. Each team will be limited to a team average of 680.

4. AVERAGES: League bowlers will use their average maintained in this league last season. All others will use their highest book average from last year. New bowlers and subs without a book average will establish an average and receive handicap after completing 3 games. All bowlers will have a new average after bowling 3 games.

5. SCORING: A 5 point system will be used: 1 point for each game won, 1 point for high game and 1 point for total pinfall. In case of a tie in any of the above, each team will receive 1/2 a point.

6. BOWLING FEES: The bowling fee is $13.00 per person-$9.25 lane fee and $3.75 to be deposited into the league bank account for league expenses, prizes & trophies. Captains are responsible for collecting the $52.00 each week. Absentee, vacancy or sub scores will not count if their $13.00 is missing. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Personal checks may be written to Flamingo Ladies.

No personal checks will be accepted the last 3 weeks of bowling- March 29, April 5 & 12, 2010.

No-Tap Tournament, the fees will be $16.00, the additional $3.00 to be used for No-Tap prize money.

7. SPONSOR/FRANCHISE FEES: Sponsor fee is $20.00 per team and must be paid by 10/5/09. New teams to the league will also be required to pay the $4.00 Franchise fee. Each Captain shall notify the league Secretary no later than the night of the banquet whether her team will retain franchise for the following year. Each will deposit $4.00 with the treasurer to hold their spot on the league. If a team is unable to attend the organizational meeting, they must notify the Secretary prior to the date of the meeting in order to retain their place in the league.

8. SALARIES: The Secretary’s fee is $20.00 per team. The Treasurer’s fee is $10.00 per team.


9. ABSENTEE/VACANCY: Absentee score shall be the missing bowler’s current average minus 20 pins plus handicap. Vacancy score is used only when a team has an incomplete roster. The vacancy score shall be 120 plus handicap. Absentee or vacancy score may be used only when a legal line-up is present, which consists of two regular bowlers plus eligible subs. If a team does not have a legal line-up at the scheduled time, the game(s) will be subject to forfeit. The team present and not at fault will bowl for average and their scores will count toward league prizes. If any member of the forfeiting team is present, they may bowl and their scores will be counted toward their average and league prizes.


10. SUBS: Captains are responsible for calling their own subs when needed. A sub list will be maintained by the secretary with names, averages and phone numbers and handed out weekly. The scores bowled by subs (while she is a sub) who later become regular members shall not be counted toward individual prizes.

11. POSITION ROUND: A team may use a sub on position round provided her average is no more than 10 pins higher than the woman she is replacing. Her average must be established in this league by bowling no less than 3 games prior to the last 3 weeks of the first half. (Dec. 7, 14, & 21, 2009).

In the second half of the season, subs must have 9 games in this league to bowl the last 3 weeks of the second half (March 22, 29 & April 5, 2010), the roll-off on April 6, 2010 & the No-Tap Tournament April 12, 2010.

12. TARDY BOWLERS: No bowler may enter a game if three frames of bowling have been completed. She must wait for the next game and the absentee score will be used for the missed game. If less than three frames have been bowled, she may enter the game and the missed frames may be made-up. The score will be counted towards prizes. A bowler will be permitted to bowl-out any game of a series before her teammates and opponents only in the case of an emergency and with the approval of both captains. She cannot return to bowl in any subsequent game(s) in the series.

13. SCORE SHEETS: Captains are responsible for recording scores. A team that is responsible for erasing the scores before the game is complete, must forfeit that game if no record of the game is available. Score sheets are given to the secretary at the end of bowling.

14. POSTPONEMENTS: No matches will be postponed except in the case of an emergency, death or severe weather. When one team cannot bowl, match games will be permitted. A league officer must be present for the match games. The make-up should be within two weeks of the missed match.

15. LEAGUE POSTPONEMENTS: In case of severe weather, a league postponement will be made and the lanes will be notified. The league secretary will attempt to notify all team captains of any postponements. Radio station Y-94 FM will also be contacted. When there is a postponement, the league schedule will continue as listed and a make-up will be scheduled as soon as possible. The secretary will check with the bowling center to set up a time and date for the make-up games.

16. MEETINGS: All captains or their representatives must attend league meetings when they are called. There will be a $5.00 fine per team if at least one member is not present unless it is an emergency meeting, then the fine will be waived.

17. PRIZES: No team or individual may win more than one special prize, scratch or with handicap (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) except for high average. Scratch will take priority. There will be 3 prizes for high average. The league members shall approve a prize list and it must be presented within five weeks after the start of the bowling season. In the event of a tie for first place at the end of each half, points won in a three game roll-off shall determine the winner, which will take place the same night of the tie. If there is a tie for any other position, the prize money will be combined and evenly distributed between the tied teams. All regular bowlers must bowl 2/3 of the season to be eligible for prizes.

18. BANQUET: At the banquet or the fall meeting, any team may volunteer to serve as the Banquet Committee. If there are no volunteers, a Banquet Committee will be drawn from all teams that have not served in the past 5 years. The Banquet Committee must choose at least 3 locations and have a choice of menu. The banquet will be held on Friday night, if available, next priority is Saturday night, then Monday night. The Banquet Committee will be allotted $15.00 per team for decorations and door prizes. The program copy fee will be paid from this allotment. 19. 50/50: A 50/50 drawing will be held each night of bowling open to everyone. The team bowling on lane 6 will be in charge of selling tickets - 3/$1.00 or 7/$2.00. If there is an uneven number of teams, the team bowling the Bye will sell the tickets. The prize money will be given to the treasurer each night. The money will be distributed evenly to all regular league bowlers at the banquet.

20. NO ONE ALLOWED IN THE BOWLING AREA EXCEPT LEAGUE BOWLERS. Captains are responsible for enforcing this rule.
