Did you know that Montgomery Township spent $23,000 to
install a disc golf course in a pristine nature area at Windlestrae Park? In the process trees and brush that provided
essential habitat to the animals were cleared from wooded public land. No regard was given to the environmental
impact on woodlands, wildlife and watersheds. Unsightly metal baskets and tee boxes have been erected throughout
public land.(see photos) The "course" is expected to attract tournament and recreational players, many from outside the township. This will certainly add to the traffic woes and further denigrate our local park. (see links for
more information on the environmental impact of disc golf).
This nature area was a treasure to the citizens of this township, a place to enjoy a
variety of plants and wildlife. On any given day you might spot deer, fox, a blue heron or a red-tailed hawk.
This precious public space has been taken away from local residents to serve the interests of a few.
