Updated Morey Interview Page

An Interview With J.W. Morey

Click the above link to hear all about Jeff Morey's pursuit of deadball autographs.  This page has been recently updated to include images of Morey's signed Ty Cobb items that were acquired over breakfast at Cooperstown's Otesaga Hotel in 1960.  It also includes a downloadable black and white copy of Morey's collection before he consigned it to Mastro Auctions circa 2001.

Wow - Authentic Plank sells for $20,400
An authentic but trimmed and creased version of the rare T206 Eddie Plank sold for $20,400 in last night's Mastro auction.  This card is in almost as beat up shape as Lionel Carter's example, which is part of the T206Collector.com collection.  The final sale price, which includes buyer's premium, suggests a floor of $20,000 for anyone interested in bidding on or buying a Plank in any condition.

As Wagner cards in any condition continue to rise into the mid-six figures, his little brother Plank is making some noise, albeit at a much lower.  If you've got any thoughts about the market for rare T206 cards, feel free to shoot me an email:  SignedT206@gmail.com

The Reacquisition Continues
Picked up six new T206 cards at last week's East Coast National in White Plains, NY -- SGC 60 Pfeister Seated and Strang.  Both are viewable in the T206 Gallery slide show.

I also happened to pick four raw T206 cards:  Lindaman, Dougherty Portrait, Leach Portrait and Mattern -- all from the same original collection that had been purchased by an old time dealer back in 1982. This show was the first time that he had brought the cards to the table to sell, and he had them hidden in a notebook under his table. The only reason he showed it to me was because I expressed an interest in his meager T206 stack that was visible.

I have to say, those raw cards were so beautiful -- snow white borders, sharp corners with just a few touches.  Unless I'm missing something, each should be an SGC 60 or higher.  I dropped them off immediately at SGC and will get back to y'all in a couple of weeks to see what's what.

It was a really terrific album. The cards may technically be only EX because of the light touches on the corners, but they were brilliant, with original gloss and snow white borders. The prices were very reasonable, but not crazy -- you make money if they grade over SGC 60; you lose money if they grade under. I don't usually buy raw -- almost never -- but these were just gorgeous; some of the nicest raw cards I've ever held.

Network 54 T206 Archiving
I have started to pull together recent and meaningful threads about T206 cards on the pre-war card collector message board at Network54.  I have added a page to my navigation bar at the top that contains these threads.  They have been loosely organized by subject matter (backs, Honus Wagner, etc.) and can be clicked so that you can read and even continue to contribute to those threads, if you are so inclined.

Network54 has an archiving feature and a search function, but I thought that useful writings about T206 should be kept in one place.  If it proves to be a useful function, I'll keep doing it.

Another Auction - Another Plank
Mastro Auctions has another T206 Plank for sale in its upcoming auction this month.  This one is the closest in condition to the Carter Plank Mastro had in April 2007, and will provide the most relevant current market information for that one, so I am eagerly anticipating this auction.  Click on the link below to check it out...
