American Sewing Guild
The American Sewing Guild is a National non-profit organization founded in 1978 and dedicated to
people who believe sewing is a rewarding and creative activity. Our mission statement is:
"Advance Sewing as an Art and Life Skill"
The Guild is a network of chapters where sewing friends representing all types of sewing and needle arts and
all levels of sewing experience come together for educational, social and philanthropic activities.
The Buffalo Chapter of the American Sewing Guild originally started as a neighborhood group with the Rochester
Chapter on August 23, 1995. Plans were made to meet the fourth Wednesday of the month at various locations. Carolyn
Bongi and Mari Wojcik of "Threads of Time" pursued the sewing enthusiasts throughout the area and in 1997 the Buffalo
neighborhood group became a chartered chapter of the American Sewing Guild.
We have continued to increase our membership with interesting programs from fitting to color analysis.
We now have six neighborhood groups that cover fashion sewing, community service, sergers, machine embroidery, general sewing,
and art to wear/fitting/fashion as well as our regular monthly chapter meeting. A joint community service project and
end of the year picnic round out the year.
