When you’re travelling with the Tao even long layovers at one of the nation’s
busiest airports can yield sublime discoveries. A nice lunch, a drowsy afternoon of magazines and pastry. And art-- thanks
to After School Matters, a non-profit partnership with Chicago area schools, parks, libraries and organizations that gives
Chicago area teens a chance to gain valuable hands-on experience and develop skills that can lead to career opportunities.
ASM’s Gallery37 project placed 37 apprentice artists under the guidance of Chihuly
Studios (associated with glass artist Dale Chihuly) to create Millennium Chandeliers, part of a 450-piece installation displayed
at the City of Chicago International Millennium Dinner. Some of the works were on view at Chicago’s O’Hare International
Airport over the holiday. The chandeliers are 4x4 squares of resin, painted and molded into designs inspired by Chihuly’s
organic style.
