Reiki

What is Reiki?

(excerpted from The International Center
for Reiki Training website: www.reiki.org)

A Brief Overview

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

During a Reiki session you are fully clothed, removing only your shoes and eyeglasses.  You will be asked to lie on a massage table or you may sit on a chair if that is a more comfortable position for you.  The practitioner will share the Reiki energy with you through a series of gentle hand placements on and over your body.  Most clients experience an abiding sense of warmth, well-being and relaxation during the session, and afterwards.  Often there is also an emotional release that is quite normal and liberating.

Afterwards, be sure to take some quiet time for yourself, drink plenty of water and keep a journal to record your thoughts and dreams...new insights are waiting!

Sessions by appointment $40

New to Reiki? Join us for our Reiki Share the first Sunday of every month, 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Spirit Center.  Appointments strongly suggested, but feel free to drop in and relax with a mandala while you wait. Love offerings accepted.

We are often asked… “Just what is SoulCollage®?”

Many things:

SoulCollage is Art.  On the most simplistic level.  You don't have to be artistic, crafty or talented.  You cut out pictures from magazines while you sit with kindred spirits.  We laugh, we talk, we let the magazine images find us without thinking too much about it.  It’s a fun sharing time.

SoulCollage is Meditation and Prayer.  After you cut out a bunch of images, you take some quiet time to look at one or two of them.  You ask, "what do you have to tell me?"  "is there something you want me to know?".  If one image really draws you in, you can hold it in your hands and pray/meditate on it… or walk the labyrinth with it… or simply begin working with it, finding other images that feel like they have the same energy.  We will provide the sacred space and time to get comfortable with the process.

SoulCollage is Self Realization.  Sometimes when you are looking at an image, you may feel like "hey, this is me when I ________!"  Or "this reminds me of _______, who was very important in my life" Or "I don't know what the heck this picture is saying to me but I just 'know' I need it".  Many, many times you will have an AHA! moment… the more you work with the image, it will reveal itself to you, giving you just the information you need in your life right now.

Then you start again:

SoulCollage is Art.  You put together a collage based on the images that seem to hold the same energy, or say the same thing.  We give you a picture frame and you move the images around until it feels right.  It can be funny, whimsical, meaningful, dark, happy, sad- you name it.  You can make a card to honor a part of yourself, a person or place in your life, an archetype that speaks to you or an animal/being you feel a connection with.

The first rule of SoulCollage

There are no rules!  There is no right or wrong, trust yourself!

When the arrangement feels right--you glue it to a 5x8 mat board.  Congratulations!  You've made your first card!

SoulCollage is Meditation and Prayer.  Once you've made your card, you once again can pray, meditate, reflect or just sit with it or make another one.  When you are ready, you begin speaking from the card.  We will help you find the primary voice in the card by using the "I am One who..." exercise.  For example:  A card with images of gardening could possibly tell you "I am One who loves the earth, I am One who grows and nurtures, I am the One who is one with the cycles of life."  The amazing thing is how each card will give you valuable clues to your inner soul, your inner truths.

Now here's the fun part:

SoulCollage is Self Realization.  Once you've made a fair amount of cards--not all in one sitting, of course--but over time, you will find the cards to be very informative when you have questions about your life and your direction.  You can do "readings" with your deck and see what YOUR soul has to tell you.  Or you can just pick a card a day to remind yourself of all your inner voices (called Neters) and what they have to tell you about yourself.  Doing this process in a group (circle) is very powerful--it is also very gentle and nonthreatening.  Anyone who has meditated, prayed or communed with any group knows how energy can double with kindred spirits.  We keep the circles small--4 or 5 at most--which is why space is so limited.

The possibilities are endless, which is why it takes a day to really delve into the cards and discover what the process is all about.

In our workshops, we create a sacred space for all to explore the fun, new creative process while also just taking some time away from the noise and busyness of our everyday lives.

Our labyrinth will be available.  Quiet time....couches to put your feet up and blankets to snuggle with......warm, wonderful food....music.....meditation.....sharing.....

Close your eyes and envision how wonderful the day will be......

Mandala by Jackie, age 12 ,from Peace Mandala Coloring Book. Colored by Sheree

The word Mandala is Sanskrit and literally means center and circle.  Examples of Mandalas abound in nature. Every cell in our body, for instance is a living mandala.  As an art form, mandalas have been known to all cultures throughout history.  They can be very simple or extremely complex as in ancient Tibetian religious designs, Navajo sand paintings, and huge stained glass windows in medieval cathedrals.  Psychologically, mandalas represent the totality of our being or Self.  Drawing and coloring mandalas is a form of meditation... as an activity coloring mandalas can help us become more focused when we feel scattered, and more peaceful when we are struggling with personal issues. - Monique Mandali, from the preface to "Everyone's Mandala Coloring Book"
