Welcome to www.bridleplates.com

Included in your package was hardware for attaching. We use Solid Brass & Nickel Silver Escrutcheon Pins and Copper Burrs. These were designed for attaching plates to tack and are by far the safest way to attach. We do not use rivets they are dangerous and may come off, and a swinging plate can cause injury to you’re animal.  The plates can be attached with rivets, we however will not supply them.

Things you will need to attach your plates:

A ball peen hammer.

Painters tape. (to protect your plate)

A pair of wire cutters. (something to cut the excess nail)

A flat hard surface. (an anvil would be perfect, a vise would work too)

  • Place name plate on leather, score holes with nail (or with an awl if you have one).
  • Hammer nail through hole and into the leather, making sure it is straight. (The nails don't fall through the bridle plate holes easily, once you hit it with the hammer they will, you want the nail to be tight)
  • Now place a small piece of masking/painters tape on your plate so it does not get scratched
  • Turn the plate over so the nails are sticking up.
  • Place washers over nails, tap washers down, make sure that are flat against the leather. (Use a pair of pliers or a rivet setter to push them down)
  • Snip off excess nail close to the leather. (but not to close you’ll need a little to tap down)
  • Using the round part of the ball peen hammer, tap with small hard taps what you have left of the nail, the brass will heat up and mold itself over the copper burr.

If you run into problems, are unsure or just don't feel up to it, stop! Ask you’re farrier/saddle maker or local tack shop to attach it for you. You may also send your tack to us and we will professionally attach it for you for a small fee, of $2.50 per item.
