About the Artist

Embryonic Postcard #2Beginning as a traditional quilter, Jim Vander Noot started working with fabric in 1989 while living in Houston. Jim took many classes, made many quilts, and bought a lot of fabric. He was also active in the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston.

Finally all the beds in the house were nicely covered (some of them were several layers deep in quilts). And Jim joined Heartstring Quilters, where he was exposed to a powerhouse of talent and discovered the artistic possibilities of quilting.

Jim's quilts showcase a variety of techniques, from traditional quilting and appliqué to free-motion embroidery and decorative threadwork. In his work, Jim uses mostly commercial cottons, supplemented with his own hand painted and printed fabrics and other fibers.
