In the course of human events it becomes inevitable to stand up and take action. Some actions require
the dissemination of information to inform and educate the masses.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is at a crossroads. First there was tha Mashpee Wampanoag Middleborough
Resort Casino that has failed under a February US Supreme Court ruling. Our Governor Deval Patrick set out last year to bring 3 commercial resort casinos. That crashed and burned
under senior legislative weight. Now gambling bills arise again. Casinos, racinos and/or slot parlors. The
battle is continual. I hope to display and comment upon effectively quotations from various individuals their convictions
and attitudes on this pressing subject. May it educate, inform and entertain you thoroughly.

Should Anyone Be Surprised?
The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (FCCG) has operated the statewide problem gambling
helpline in Florida for the past 21 years. Fiscal year 2008/2009 statistics showed significant increases in statewide problem
gambling. The FCCG received 13,998 contacts to its 24-Hour, toll free, problem gambling HelpLine, 888-ADMIT-IT, during this
period, with over 4,400 of those requests for help and information. This represents a 5% increase in contacts in the past
year and a 19% increase over the past two years. - Calls to Problem Gambling HelpLine Continue to Increase
Well, it seems that since expanding gambling in Florida and giving the Seminoles their casinos has
had the effect we knew it would this past couple of years.
This year, 33% of gamblers admitted committing illegal acts, up from 23% in 06/07, and fraud and
embezzlement were the most frequently cited crimes committed. More than one out of every six gamblers (17%) has been subject
to legal actions as a result of their gambling problems. In addition, as further documentation as to the severity of the problem,
10% of the gamblers had either attempted suicide or had serious ideations to do so.
I suppose Massachusetts should become like Florida now also? NOT!

"We've seized some gambling machines out here in the county, which it's illegal to operate these
machines inside the county. These machines are set up to take advantage of people." - Morgan County, Alabama

Let's Be More Like Connecticut, NOT
•Connecticut's reliance on gambling revenue for the state budget is double the national average and
among the highest of any state in the country.
•Embezzlement arrests in the state have risen nearly 400 percent since
Foxwoods Resort Casino first opened in 1991 — dramatically higher than has occurred in other states with gambling.
•The
towns around the casinos have suffered the most negative impact, with several seeing their rates of driving while under the
influence double and even triple, causing injuries and fatalities.
•Educational costs for local towns have soared.
Ten years ago, Norwich had 40 students out of 4,000 who spoke different languages. But after 2001, when more non-English speaking
workers began to take casino jobs, that changed. Now Norwich has 400 students speaking more than 20 languages, forcing the
city to spend more than $2 million in unreimbursed educational expenses.
•Because the casino salaries are too low
to afford the high cost of housing in the area, illegal and dangerous boarding houses have opened, some of them potential
firetraps.
Need I say any more? This cannot be what Massachusetts needs.
I've been on vacation and stirring the pot in my home town. I'm happy to be back.

Middleboro Review said
Another report by Spectrum Gaming Group? Their reputation
duplicates that of Clyde Barrows. I appreciate that you posted this and can't wait to delve into the report
next. It's sure to be unbiased and can we expect that this one is funded more generously than the last one that CT conducted?
The quote that resonates?
Government hasn't even been organized enough to recoup millions in regulatory costs for which
the casinos were supposed to be responsible, instead letting taxpayers pick up the bill.
That's was a major point that Massachusetts' Attorney General
Martha Coakley included in her presentation. Just a quick tally of her comments indicates that expenses just for those
costs will be $100 Million.
We need an honest cost/benefit analysis before we think this makes sense.
