In the course of human events it becomes inevitable to stand up and take action. Some actions require
the dissemination of information to inform and educate the masses.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is at a crossroads. First there was tha Mashpee Wampanoag Middleborough
Resort Casino that has failed under a February US Supreme Court ruling. Our Governor Deval Patrick set out last year to bring 3 commercial resort casinos. That crashed and burned
under senior legislative weight. Now gambling bills arise again. Casinos, racinos and/or slot parlors. The
battle is continual. I hope to display and comment upon effectively quotations from various individuals their convictions
and attitudes on this pressing subject. May it educate, inform and entertain you thoroughly.

still coming up with "gems". Thanks for posting the Fox News Video on "casino
shopping". Yup, we certainly know what that's all about! Keep at it!
"Any law which uplifts human personality is just. Any law which degrades
human personality is unjust."-Martin Luther King, Jr.
There is no honor amongst thieves gamblers, even if they are elderly sisters. Amazing what winning some bucks can do to once sweet little old ladies. Which is why the above quote by Martin
Luther King Jr. is so applicable. There are so few "winners" when it comes to the lottery or gambling. The house
wins always. All other winners are window dressing meant to bait you in. These predators always go after
the vulnerable and who are more vulnerable than the elderly. Seniors are a high risk group and who preys on them, casinos and their enablers who giving them rides to the casinos. How do they sleep at night?
It's always disappointing when no one sees anything wrong promoting and marketing gambling to
Seniors.
Because gambling is so wildly profitable, they target the most vulnerable demographic, much like
vultures.

How about "Happy Birthday Grandma!"
"(The) elderly may have not have anyone to wish them for a happy birthday. Casinos
send them cards and say, 'Come get a free dinner!' It becomes to them almost like a family." - Cody Shoemaker,
a gambling counselor for Bridgeway, a substance abuse service out of Ponca City, OK
Does it make anyone wonder what it says about a community that a birthday
card from a casino is meaningful? I get them from my insurance agent
and don't consider him/her, the agency or the company my "friend." We have lost an important part of our existence when
we sacrifice our seniors this way.
Although an old study on gambling and political corruption, this Australian report shows how much we knew 20 years ago and things really hasn't changed today. Do I have to remind people of
Abscam? You can read about other accounts here and here.
Again I ask, why expand gambling if it only brings in more crime? Martha please add political
corruption laws to your list. Not as a way to gloss over what needs to be done to have it "done right", but as an argument
against expanded gambling in MA all together.
“As we explore the possibility of expanded gaming in the commonwealth, it is critical that we
have the statutory structure in place to address the types of financial crimes and corruption that may be associated with
legalized gaming.” - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley
Does this really make sense? How can anyone take crime fighting seriously if the object is
to bring more crime into the state? What are they thinking? If casino gambling or slot parlors bring in more crime, which by the AG's own admission are money
laundering, organized crime and wire interception to name a few, why even consider it?
The logic of these legislators and such is sorely missing.
Let's stop and think of other industries the state has brought or is trying to bring into MA.
Biotech, crime laws associated with biotech that need strengthening are... gosh... I can't think of any. Creating
Frankenstein's Monster, 25 years to life. How about... Clean Energy? Clean energy crimes consist of... sign... nothing. Fine
the weatherman $10,000 for each cloudy day. I know, I know... Film & Movie Industry. There must be real
crime there, coming to Plymouth at Hollywood East. I got it... Another Ben Affleck movie. Muderer od good taste, punishable by lethal injection.
If you need to strengthen or create laws to prevent crime associated with a particular industry,
should we even consider bringing or having it here in the first place?
You raise goods points! Just what we need - more crime! If casinos or slot parlors had
to pay for their costs, they couldn't afford to exist. Unfortunately, it's the taxpayers who pick up the tab, believing
this is job creation - which as you know, it isn't.
Gambling is extremely profitable and buys the best talent there is to create convincing marketing
that ignores the facts. Voters should expect better of their elected officials. One Rep. actually did thorough
research to formulate his opinion and published his report
