Happy 100th Birthday BSA!
Today marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America in the United States.
W. D. Boyce, a Chicago publisher, learned of the Scouting movement while visiting London in 1909. Soon after his return
to the U.S., Boyce incorporated the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910. The BSA's stated purpose at its incorporation
in 1910 was "to teach [boys] patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values."

This is to let everyone know that due to the heavy snow fall and the inability
of people to get out of their driveways let along get to St. Maurice, we are cancelling the Troop Family Dinner and Court
of Honor that was planned for this evening. We do not have an alternate date as of this time but we will let your know about future plans

We do not know if St. Maurice will be having the 5PM mass or

Family Dinner and Winter Court of Honor
If you wish to drop off your
food for the family dinner, the Family Dinner Committee will be available at St Maurice from 4:15- 4:45 pm. They will
place your food in the kitchen area and keep it warm if necessary. The committee will be attending Mass at 5:00 pm,
so if you don't arrive before 4:45 pm, you will need to wait until 6:15 pm to deliver your food. Be sure to mark your dishes and utensils if you would like to have them returned after the dinner.
Any scouts with completed Merit Badge cards should bring them
to tonight's troop meeting. We will make every attempt to present badges from the current Merit Badge Connection at
this Court of Honor.
Scouts should be in their Complete
Class A uniforms for the Family Dinner/Court of Honor.

Committee Meeting: Sunday January 31, 2010
To
all Scout Parents,
This
is to remind you that the Troop has a Troop Committee Meeting on Sunday, January 31st at 7:30 PM at the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.
We will meet on the 2nd floor in the Cascade Room. The ability of the troop to continue to have an interesting
and active program depends on the willingness of the parents and other adults associated with the troop to support the program.
The
committee meeting is where this all starts. Please
plan to make time to attend and help with our program requirements. Hope to see you there.

Scout Sunday (Saturday) Services
The Forms section of the website contains 3 permission slips for Scout Sunday Services. One is for a Mass at St. Maurice before
our Family Dinner on Feb 6, 2010 at 5:00 PM. The second is for a Service at FHPC on Feb 14, 2010 at 10:30 AM. This
service is being offered by our sponsor organization and I would like to see our scouts in attendance. The third is
a service at St Paul's Cathedral in Oakland also on Feb 14th at 4:00 PM. This is being offered to all scouts in the
Greater Pittsburgh Area and requires advanced registration to receive a commemorative religious patch for the 100 Year Anniversary
of Scouting.

Friends of Scouting
Dear Scout Parents,
At our Family Dinner on Saturday, February 6th, we, the families and friends of Scouting, will be asked
to contribute toward the running of the Council. This is known as the Friends of Scouting Campaign (FOS) and provides for
about 16% of the funds that the council needs each year. This enables the council to continue providing the year round camping
facilities, professional staff, training courses, liability insurance, and the many other services that enable the units to
provide a good program for the scouts. This is in addition to the United Way
contribution and the corporate fundraising activates from which the Council receives funds. The council must raise about
$133 per Scout each year from the FOS Campaign to cover the costs of the program.
This amounts to only $11.00 per month per scout.
Last year the families and leaders of Troop 90 donated and pledged about $3000 or about $75 per scout.
We have consistently been one of the leaders in this effort in the district and council. I
hope we will be able to do as well as last year and that each family will give as generously as they are able and to the extent
that they feel Scouting benefits their son(s).
We will be able to either make a pledge or an outright donation on Saturday evening. Because of the
expense of mailing monthly pledge statements, pledges will only be taken for $25 per year or more. Donations given that evening can be for any amount. We would appreciate it if all those families that attend
the family dinner return the cards that evening even if they do not contribute.
If you have not done so in the past, please consider making a pledge or donation this year and, for
those of us that have donated in the past, we should consider increasing our contribution. It would be great to have 100%
participation from our families. If you have any questions concerning this campaign please call me.
If you are not planning to attend the Family Dinner I will be sending the pledge card to you. Please
return the card to me, with or without a contribution, and I will process it with council.
Yours in Scouting,
Richard Rode
Scoutmaster

Life to Eagle News
The District Advancement Committee met last night at CMU
and John G. presented his proposed Eagle Project and it was approved. John will be organizing a bike safety rodeo for the children of Forest Hills
and surrounding communities. He hopes to hold this event in late April/early May. He will need a lot of help and I expect to see our scouts fully
support this project.
The District Advancement Committee also held an Eagle
Board of Review for Garrett O., which he passed with flying colors. Congratulations to Troop 90’s newest Eagle Scout.
Jack E. Russell
