Font Hill Park Walk

fonthillA-451.JPG

This is a very easy, relaxing walk of about 1.0 mile.

The Font Hill Park covers 24 acres and includes two ponds, wetlands and forested areas. The park was a joint project funded by the state, county and private sector to establish more wetlands. The area is great for frogwatching and birdwatching. The county has recorded about 104 species of birds, 53 species of dragonflies & damselflies, at least 7 species of amphibians, and many species of mammals. You can hear various frog and toad species singing from spring to summer--mostly around dusk. We enjoyed looking for turtles when we visited in the late morning.

After this walk, you should plan to make a stop at the Forest Diner for a bite to eat, and/or the Forest Motel Soft Serve (next door to the diner) for some ice cream. Both have outdoor seating, and are less than a mile from the Font Hill walk.

The Turf Valley Overlook walk is also nearby (about 2 miles from Font Hill)—if you feel like doing a little more exploring in a more rugged natural area.
