Once you walk this path, you'll
understand why people were so passionate about protecting the Trotter Road area from development.
This walk in the Middle Patuxent
Environmental Area is for everyone--especially nature lovers. It has a wealth of habitats and is home to many species of birds,
butterflies, frogs and mammals. It is an easy 2 miles, unpaved, mostly shaded, and very scenic. You'll enjoy the views and
sounds of the river and the chorus of bird songs. Your dog will love connecting with his Inner Wolf.
After this walk, you will have
renewed vigor about saving the planet. You can celebrate your transformation at Artie's
Ice Cream shop in Clarksville, a short drive away. Artie's
is an old-fashioned shop with a walk-up window to order ice cream (or sandwiches and other snacks), and a collection of picnic
tables off to the side where you can sit and eat with your pooch. (Hours of operation are seasonal, so check ahead.)
You'll also want to visit nearby
Bark! in Clarksville, just a half mile from Artie's. Bark! is a shop with pet products that
are "healthy, ecologically sustainable, and socially responsible," and pets are welcome to browse the store too!
