This view is of the Cut is from near the location of the railroad siding which served the Big Bend Mine. The Big Bend siding branched off to the left and was located in the area known as "The Flats" named perhaps for the flatness of the terrain in the big bend area of Blacklick Creek or for the nickname of "flats" used by miners to refer to the rail-cars used to carry coal. This area was used to hold the empty rail-cars as well as the filled cars waiting for transport to their customers.
