Christ's Church of Waverly is an independent group of believers, not a part of any denomination. We have no creed except that which the Bible gives as final authoritative Word. We are founded on the convictions of going back to the Bible. In matters of doctrine, we strive to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.

We believe:

The Bible is the inspired, true, and authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

There is one God who existed before time, exists now, and shall eternally exist in three "persons": Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is omnipotent (all powerful). (Job 9:1-13; Psalm 115:3; Psalm 135:6; Isaiah 40:12-18; Isaiah 40:28; Isaiah 43:13; Jeremiah 32:17; Matthew 19:26; Romans 11:33-36; Hebrews 6:13; Revelation 1:5)

God is omnipresent (everywhere). (Deuteronomy 4:39; Isaiah 66:1; 1 Kings 8:27; Psalm 139:5-12; Proverbs 15:3; Jeremiah 23:23-24; Acts 17:27; Ephesians 4:10)

God is omniscient (all knowing). (Job 31:4; Job 34:21; Psalm 33:13; Psalm 147:5; Matthew 10:26-31; John 2:24; John 16:29-30; 1 Corinthians 1:25)

The whole world was created by the living God in six 24-hour days; everyone and everything was created by God.(Genesis 1; John 1:1-5)

God loves us and wants us to be saved.(John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:3-4)

Everyone has sinned and has need of a Savior.(Romans 3:9-10; Romans 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:22)

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. (Matthew 16:13-20; Mark 8:27-30; Mark 14:61-62)

Jesus was born of a virgin. (Matthew 1:18-20, 25; Luke 1:34-35)

Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins, though he was sinless Himself. (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22-24; 1 John 3:5)

Jesus voluntarily died on the cross as the sacrifice for ours sins, was in the tomb for three days and three nights, and arose to life again. He is alive today. (Matthew 12:40; Mark 10:32-34; Luke 18:31-33; Acts 1:3; Acts 2:29-36; Acts 10:39-46; Romans 3:25-26; Romans 4:25; Romans 6:9-10; Ephesians 5:25; Hebrews 10:5-10)

Jesus ascended into Heaven. (Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9)

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit after He ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit dwells within every Christian. He empowers us to live a life of holiness, guides, comforts, and assists us in prayer and the study of God's Word. (Acts 2:4, 38; Romans 8:9-11; Ephesians 1:18-19; Ephesians 3:20; Romans 8:26-27)

There is one true church, and it was founded by Jesus. (Matthew 16:18; Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:1-6)

Jesus is the Head of the church, and the church will last forever. (Daniel 2:44; Acts 2:47; Hebrews 12:28-29; Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 Peter 3:22)

We are living in the New Testament (or new covenant) dispensation; the New Testament sets forth the ideal for the Christian. (Matthew 5:17; Luke 22:20; Romans 3:19-31; Romans 13:8-10; 1 Corinthians 11:25; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Hebrews 8:6-8; Hebrews 9:15; Hebrews 12:22-24)

Jesus died as a sin offering (sacrifice) in our place. Only His sacrifice, His blood, can wash away man's sin. (1 Peter 1:18-19; Hebrews 9:26-28; Revelation 1:5)

Through Jesus is the only way to receive the gift of eternal life--through belief and faith in Him and obedience to his Word. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)

Salvation is offered as a gift to those who believe in Jesus Christ. Since it is a gift, it cannot be earned, and we cannot save ourselves on our own merit. We cannot do anything to become deserving of the freely given grace of God. (Acts 2:36-47; Ephesians 2:8-9)

This free gift (grace) of forgiveness from God and adoption as heirs to the kingdom is obtained through believing, repenting, confessing, being baptized (fully immersed in water), and standing firm to the end. Salvation can be forfeited by turning away from Christ. (Matthew 10:21-22; Matthew 24:12-13, 37-44; Matthew 25:6-13; Mark 13:12-13, 30-37; Luke 8:13; Luke 21:30-36; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 1 Corinthians 10:12; Galatians 5:4; Philippians 3:10-15; Colossians 2:18; 1 Timothy 1:18-19; 1 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:17-18; Hebrews 2:1-3; Hebrews 3:7-14; Hebrews 6:4-6; 2 Peter 2:4, 10-11, 20-21; 2 Peter 3:17; Revelation 3:1-6)

Jesus is coming again someday. He will return with His angels and appear to all those living on earth. The dead in Christ shall rise first, then we shall all meet Him in the air. (Matthew 24:30-44; Mark 13:26-33; Luke 12:40; John 21:22-24; 1 Thessalonians 4:17)

When Jesus returns, everyone will face judgment. (John 5:26-30; Acts 10:42; Acts 17:31; Romans 2:16; Romans 14:10-12; 2 Timothy 4:1; Hebrews 10:30; James 4:12; 1 Peter 4:5)

Satan (the devil) is real. Hell is a real place of fiery and eternal damnation.
