Let's Focus On Our Kids!

Children's Awareness Month in June focuses on educating people about how to create a safe environment for their kids.  Its primary goal is to have children being less exposed to violence and to make sure they don't spend their time growing up emotionally scarred.  Today's society is very violent, disrespectful and faithless.  Fast money, fast living and sex is taught to our kids and teens on a daily basis.  And it's up to the parent to try and protect them from these harms.  Even though we can't be with our children 24/7, having Jesus in our household is the best way to raise them.  "Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it." (Proverbs 22:6).  Children learn what they see and observe more than what we say, so being a christian example is very important.
Also if our children make bad and unsafe choices, we should be sure to discipline them accordingly.  Proverbs 13:24 says, "If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don't love them; if you love your children, you will be prompt to discipline them."  Proverbs 29:17 also says,"Discipline your children, and they will give you happiness and peace of mind."  Discipline should be done always out of the best interest of the child.  We should make sure that we are telling them why the behavior is wrong, why we disagree and that we are doing it out of love for them.  God tells us to live "in the world" but not "of the world."  This is a difficult task for us, as well as our children.  But as long as we remember to consult God and the Holy Spirit in everything we do, he will direct our paths.
