Instructions for downloading files

On webpages, there are many cues that a link exists, or that a file can be downloaded.  I often find a single mouse CLICK, gives me an error message though.  In later operating systems (beyond 1997/8), there is a right click feature.  Click on the right side of the MOUSE, and options will come up, such as:  “Open”, “Open in New Window”, “PRINT”, “Save Target As”…..

Below are further instructions to download text documents, and sound files from my webpages.

  1. Right click and select “SAVE TARGET AS”
  2. Choose file name and location on your hard disk (directly to your computer), or an external media drive, such as a zip disk, or USB port.
  3. After downloading the file, it should open with the proper extension (file type – which is after the “.” in the file name.).  If not, you can rename the file extension to match the file downloaded (with initial (& complete) file name provided), and/OR right click to select “Open With”, and choose the application needed to open this file (TYPE).

If you have problems opening “.doc” files with Microsoft/APPLE Word, “.pdf” files with Adobe Acrobat, or “.wma” files with Windows Media Player, please let me know!
