There is a hilarious scene in a the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail " where a Knight is guarding a bridge that King Arthur wants to cross . The knight challenges King Arthur to a dual who then procedes to chop off the knights arms and legs. This sacrifice may seem to be the same idea, let the enemy chop off your limbs. Actually though, it makes for a brilliant and dynamic chess game. The theory being that while the enemy Queen is engaged in capturing your pieces, she is not guarding her husband, His Majesty and thus the King is vulnerable to attack. Here are example games:
