The Thematic Chess Method

Chess secrets the masters don't reveal in their books--This is arguably the most important chess website on the internet

Before we sit down at the chess table we should have an overall view of what we intend to do with the specific openings we intend to play. These openings in our repertoir preset the strategies and tactics of the middle game--the "theme"-- which then lead to specific endgame positions. In other words chess can be viewed as a tree, the opening is the trunk, the middle game is the branches and those branches themselves branch out to various endgames. The flowers and fruits of our tree of chess are our victories. Throughout the game we encounter patterns that tell a practiced eye the strategies and ultimately the tactics we need to play and the techniques we need to use. When we discuss "technique" we are talking about the spin without the top, technique is the way we do things, and so it is neither strategy nor tactic, nonetheless it is an important pattern that we should study although most chess players tend to neglect it. The best way to learn all this is through the study of the positions themselves, learning their names and the techniques for playing them. This site is arranged in the form of a tree, showing the positions in the order in which they arise, giving them specific names and providing numerous examples, puzzles and full games to develop your chess I.

Your help is wanted not only to send your bouquets and brickbats about the good, the bad, and the ugly features of this site but also to contribute ideas, examples, diagrams, games relating to chess patterns, strategies and techniques. And we also need web designers to provide designs and artwork to be used on this site, chess masters to go over the materials and provide comment and contributions, HTML experts to proofread and contribute to the work of constructing the site. Also cash contributions are needed.

"The more technique you have, the less you have to worry about it. The more technique there is, the less there is." - Pablo Picasso

Webmasterfrank says, 'I believe the American people should refuse to pay their taxes because their tax money is being used for an immoral and illegal war. To support the continued murder of the Iraqi people by American soldiers is tantamount to the support of the Nazi soldiers by the German people.'

The Man Without A Shadow
A Poem By Webmaster Frank

The man without a shadow sits in an alley,
His head between his fingers
Declaiming the suffering of mankind
And is engulfed by the tsunami and dies.
