"Another Cambridge Church organized in 1851--Cambridge Baptists continued
to worship at the Brick Church. Before another effort was made to establish a
church in town there were fourteen Baptist churches organized in the county. It
was not convenient for many to attend services at the Brick church. In 1850
Elder Mears was appointed by the Ohio Baptist convention to travel as a
missionary in this part of the state. For the convenience of the Cambridge
Baptists he held a meeting here in town once in every two weeks, and suggested
the organization of a church. This was done on June 4, 1851, with the following
constituent members:........... Elder Mears preached to the newly organized
society for two years. He was succeeded by Rev. B. Y. Siegried in 1853. ....the
two oldest Baptiost churches in guernsey County are Salt Fork (1818) and Mt.
Zion."
