Robert M. Green has researched the Green family extensively and documented the family well in his book entitled "The Green Tree." I have taken the liberty to make a few excerpts for background on the Green family as they relate to our connection to this family. For further research, I encourage you to locate a copy of this book.

Like many families, there are a number of Greens in eastern Pennsylvania as well Virginia and West Virginia. Our ancestor, William Green I, who was traced by Robert Green to Orange County, Virginia (later Frederick and finally Berkeley County, West Virginia). A will probated on March 21st, 1780 in Berkeley County (now West Virginia) names two sons, five daughters and a grandson. Our connection to the Green family is through Rebecca Green, daughter of Regnal Green Sr I and Sarah Duncan. Rebecca became the second wife of Peter Williamson Sr. I, who also lived in Berkeley County, on 29 June 1801. Their son Joseph A. Williamson married twice. His second marriage was to Rachel Hartsock. One of their children was Angevine Williamson who married William Dague, father of our ancestor Blanche Dague Peterman. Regnal Green I reportedly lived to be approximately 110 years old. He was said to have ridden horseback at the age of 100 approximately 30 miles to his son George's home near Johnstown, Ohio and as he entered the drive, he struck the horse with his hat and rode up the drive at a gallop, whooping and shouting all the way. This ride would have occurred after 1806.

Robert Green relates the story of David (Hugh) Williamson and Capt. Charles Bilderback and their involvement in the Gnadenhuetten, Ohio Indian massacre which led to the demise of Capt Bilderback who was later taken captive and scalped by indians. His widow, Rhuhama Nichols Bilderback (who was also captured, but, later released) married John Williamson I, a brother of Rebecca after Capt Bilderback's death.

A Benjamin Green was involved in the Early Licking Baptist Church. There are several Benjamin Greens but this may be the one who is married near Etna, Ohio; across from Mt. Zion Reform church. He died June 3, 1879 at the age of 74. He is probably one of the early Greens, remotely connected to our Greens.

The Green Tree mentions he was fined "five shillings, or fifty pounds of tobacco" for missing a muster of the Frederick County Foot Company of the Virginia Militia, during the French and Indian War. He sold land he inherited from his father to a Joseph McMurran on December 11th, 1800. On May 1805, he deeded 320 acres to his son Thomas in Fairfield County, Ohio

Notes for PETER WILLIAMSON:

Enlisted in the Army in Hagerstown, MD in 1791 and fought in the Northwest Indian Wars after which he was stationed at Fort Washington near the site of Cincinnati, OH. He later survived the St. Clair's defeat being wounded he spent time in a

hospital at Fort Washington and was discharged after 30 days being unable to continue. discharged on November 27, 1791. (Infantry volunteers). Land and other record information is in Winchester, VA courthouse and Handley Library in Winchester, VA.
