Came to America arriving in Philadelphia on
May 17, 1828 after sailing 39 days on a ship named "Dorothy." They
settled near Cambridge, Ohio where William became pastor of a Baptist Church.
He left a manuscript concerning his family line, but some parts were missing.
The data is incomplete. As a boy, he lived for a time with his Uncle and
cousins on the Barkefield Farm in Lancaster County, England. He also lived for
a time with Grandparents, Ann and William Denton and their son John.

in Washington TWP, included elizabeth, Peter, William Mears and Elizabeth Mears
Bateman. Founded 1842. 977.191 H2e, p368 showed William Mears filled the Salt
Creek Baptist church pulpit from 1842-1849. On page 357 William Mears is the
second pastor of the Dresden Baptist church 1846-1850 and started the first
sunday school. Joined baptist church in Zanesville, Ohio in 1830 and ordained
minister in 1836 for 21 years (26 April 1838)

organized in 1851--Cambridge Baptists continued to worship at the Brick Church.
Before another effort was made to establish a church in town there were
fourteen Baptist churches organized in the county. It was not convenient for
many to attend services at the Brick church. In 1850 Elder Mears was appointed
by the Ohio Baptist convention to travel as a missionary in this part of the
state. For the convenience of the Cambridge Baptists he held a meeting here in
town once in every two weeks, and suggested the organization of a church. This
was done on June 4, 1851, with the following constituent members:...........
Elder Mears preached to the newly organized society for two years. He was
succeeded by Rev. B. Y. Siegried in 1853. ....the two oldest Baptiost churches
in guernsey County are Salt Fork (1818) and Mt. Zion."

Notes for WILLIAM PENROD MARSHALL:
"Doc" Marshall served in both the Army
and the Navy during the Civil War. He enlisted in the Army; Co. B, 78th Bn at
Zanesville, Ohio. He became ill from TB exposure in 1862 while on duty in
Tennessee and was honorably discharged as a result of the TB. Two years later,
he enlisted in the Navy for 4 years and was sent to Philadelphia, PA. to enter
the Marine Corps.. He served until March 27, 1868. He wrote a book entitled
"Afloat on The Pacific" about his exploits. (Note; I found a
bookstore, don't recall which one which had a copy of this book in 2002 and
they were asking $500. for it.) He practiced medicine in Pleasant Valley near
Zanesville, Ohio. He was familiar with several languages.

Granville, Jan. 10 - The death of Jacob Smith
Peterman, 82, occurred last night at the home of his son, Frank Peterman, in
the Welsh Hills. He was the son of the late William Peterman; he was born in
Franklin County and was a veteran of the Civil War. Surviving are two sons, Frank
Peterman, of the Welsh Hills and Charles B. of Cleveland, and five
grandchildren. The funeral will be held Sunday at 1:00 o'clock at the home, and
burial will be in the Jersey Cemetery by the side of his wife who died several
years ago.

assembling K-Rats, etc, for our troops. He and Blanche reportedly lost a set of

she threw kerosene into the cook stove as she was hurrying to prepare dinner.
An explosion resulted, the house with most of its furnishings were destroyed. She
was rescued by her Teen son Roy L. Peterman as he threw a rug around her and
rolled her on the ground. She carried the Burn scars to her grave. She was a
very friendly lady who loved to talk to people.
