William Bracken Dague was blind in later
years. In spite of this handicap, he was a good cook and cooked for the Francis
Arthur Peterman family after their home burned ca 1927. His daughter, Blanch
Vesta Dague Peterman was severely burned but survived thanks to the quick
rescue by her young son, Roy Lee Peterman who threw a rug around her and rolled
her on the ground. She carried the scars from the burns to her grave. William
Dague and Jacob Smith Peterman (father of Francis Arthur) often argued but were
good friends and great company for each other.

Obituary Paulding
Co. Republic Newspaper Thursday August 5, 1934, page 5
Former Mayor of
Latty dies
William H. Dague,
42, died at his home Southwest of Latty on Thursday, July 26th, after a long
illness of heart trouble. Of his immediate family, he is survived by his wife
and seven children the oldest being not yet twenty. For a number of years he
resided in Latty where he was employed by the Nickel Plate as car inspector and
was elected mayor of the village in 1921 by a large majority. It was during his
administration that the bond issue for electric lights in the village of Latty
was put through and Bill, as he was known to his constituents and large circle
of friends, was a hard worker for and it was largely through his efforts that
the considerable opposition to the improvement was put down and electric lights
in Latty became a reality in the fall of 1922. In 1923, having lost his job
through a strike the year previously, he resigned the mayorship and moved his
family to Fort Wayne where he was employed by the mechanical department of the
Nickel Plate until some six or seven years ago his health forced him to give up
the employment and he with the family moved to what is known as the Elijah
Carmean place Southwest of Latty where they have since resided. Funeral
services were conducted from the Blue Creek church on Monday being delayed to
await the hoped arrival of his oldest son, Kenneth G. Dague, who is a member of
the CCC and located in Yosemite Park, California. The boy failed to make
connections in time to arrive for the funeral and the reamins laid in state at the
Crowell Funeral Home In Paulding a few days until his arrival before interment
at Blue Creek.
