Note the name on the will which was difficult
to read (Fernell or Finnell) now appears to be Finnell. The Finnells were
apparently well to do by the standards of the time and there is a cemetery
called the Finnell Cemetery which is located on land once owned by the
Finnell's and in an area near Happy Creek so they must have been neighbors.
Alexander was reportedly a half brother of Reuben. This Cemetery is on land now
used by the Conservation Research Center, aka Cavalry Remount Depot operated by
the National Zoo, just off Route 522 South of Front Royal, VA. The Finnell's
operated a cloth factory on part of this property prior to 1850.

Notes for JOHN BIGBIE:
[chandler.FBK.GED.GED as of 6.18.2001.GED]
From " DESCENDANTS of GEORGE BIGBIE of
VIRGINIA" compiled and edited by Scott W. Bigbie 1994-1998:
Scott writes: John Bigbie. John Bigbie was
born between 1775 and 1780, in either Prince William or Culpeper County Virginia.
At some point about 1810, John Bigbie moved his family from Culpeper County to
the frontier of southeastern Ohio. (John's appearance in the 1810 census as a
resident of Culpeper County, Virginia, would indicate an emigration date from
Virginia of mid 1810 or later. The 1860 census of Ohio shows his youngest son
Elijah born circa 1809 in Ohio, indicating-even if the date or place is not
quite correct-that John and his family were in Ohio soon after being reported
in Virginia in the 1810 census.) Accompanying John to Ohio were his wife and at
least two of his children, his widowed mother Lydia, and his sister Lydia and
her husband Asa Dillon, and possibly other famly members. Asa Dillon may have
been the impetus for the family's moving to Ohio, since a number of other
Dillon families are known to have settled in this part of Ohio during the same
period, including four which appear in the 1806 tax lists of Belmont County.
Many of these Dillons came from Pennsylvania, though, so it is unclear whether
they were related to Asa or whether their location to the same place is merely
coincidence.
In Ohio John Bigbie first settled in the town
of St. Clairsville, in Belmont County Ohio. The original town lots in St.
Clairsville had been sold between 1800 and 1805, so the town was still in the
early stages of development when the Bigbie family arrived there.
John was not the first Bigby to resettle in
Ohio. A William Bigby-perhaps John's half brother-is listed as a taxpayer in
the Virginia Military District of Ohio in 1801.
In 1819, John Bigbie, acting as his mothers
attorney, recorded a deed to Frances Bigbie, selling 150 acres of land in
Culpeper County which his mother had inherited from her father George Calvert.
By 1830 John Bigbie had moved his family west to Middlebury Township in nearby
Knox County. He is shown in the 1820 US Census as a resident of Richland
Township, Belmont County, and in the 1830 census in Knox County. John died
sometime before 1845, when his heirs recorded a petition in Knox County, Ohio,
listing him as deceased.
John married Sally Wheatley 29 August 1799 in
Culpeper County Virginia. Sally was born about 1780 in Virginia, and died in
Ohio probably sometime between 1850 and 1860.

"...material gathered from the Carnegie Genealogical Library, Pittsburgh,
Pa., "History of Cumberland County, Pa." Paper is undated. Given to
me by Carol Rhodes, from research she was doing on her family, which had a
collateral Weakley line . Says a branch of the PA Weakley's moved to Loudon

into Tyler County and married three times, and built a home "at the mouth
of Arnolds Creek, WV" about 1836. The farm was known as the Bond place
