The Aria of Sylvanas Windrunner

Recalling the Beloved Past

Sylvanas singing

Sadly, a few Elves exist neither among the Blood Elves, nor the Night Elves, but among the Undead Forsaken. In fact the leader of The Forsaken is an undead Elf, Sylvanas Windrunner, sister of the Vereesa Windrunner described in Richard A. Knaak's novel, Day of the Dragon. A series of Horde quests leads to a remarkable meeting with this Banshee Queen, in which she sings a plaintive aria about the past we have lost. In Retaking Windrunner Spire, in Ghostlands, the questor may find The Lady's Necklace, with an inscription from her other sister: "To Sylvanas. Love always, Alleria." Showing this to High Executor Mavren at Tranquillien leads to another quest, Journey to Undercity, that has an astonishing climax, which is her aria.

Two excellent videos of her aria are available, one provided by BCthing, and the other recorded by Nyieshka, a Blood Elf paladin. For more information, see "In The Eye of the Storm” by Sean Molloy in Games for Windows, June 2007, pages 48-61.
