Welcome to our web site!
On this home page we'll introduce ourselves and highlight important
areas on our site. We hope to provide a clear, friendly and informative site in order to help understand our children, family
and friends affected by XYY Syndrome.
Introduction:
XYY syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder that affects males. It is caused by the presence of an extra Y chromosome.
Males normally have one X and one Y chromosome. However, individuals with this syndrome have one X and two Y chromosomes.
Affected individuals are usually very tall and thin. Many experience severe acne during adolescence. Additional symptoms may
include antisocial or behavioral problems and learning disabilities. Intelligence is usually normal, although IQ, on average,
is 10 to 15 points lower than siblings.
While a large percentage of males with XYY function normally in society, and are often unaware they they have the
chromosomal abnormality, for many families the XYY Syndrome presents itself with significant challenges. It is difficult
to stereotype an XYY male as they seem to present such different charactaristics to varying degrees. This
web site will grow to be a great way to quickly share information and resources and educate visitors on the key issues of
the syndrome.
This website also serves individuals with XYYY Syndrome, and Mosaic variations of XYY Syndrome. We hope you'll
find the information on this site valuable. We welcome your thoughts, comments and additional information to be
reviewed and posted. We look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions or need further information.
