Guy and Yolanda, photo: Barbara Engel
Yolanda and Guy met in
a NJ beach town in 1994, and started writing songs with nothing but vocals and 12-string bass guitar. Before working with
Guy, Yolanda had been involved with two different projects: Lingo - a vocal/percussion duo, and Sunlight City - a jazzy/lounge
duo. Guy had played in rock and blues bands, then the metal band, Scapegoat, which morphed into Kill Mildred.
One Single Breath is
audio-erotica tinged with an aquatic vibe. Guy's music is all written on six- and 12-string bass guitars, on which he taps
harmonics and plays bluesy chords layered on trippy loops.
"We fell in love writing
this music," says Yolanda, "so be careful who's around when you listen to it." They're inspired by everything from Robin Trower,
King Crimson and The Beatles, to King's X, Kate Bush and Sade, to music of India and Africa.
Their first effort, One
Single Breath, was recorded at Dye Hard Studios in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, in 1998-1999. The new album is a work in progress,
but you can listen to "Sky Dive" and "What If I Had Wings" on our MySpace site. The new tracks are less trance/ambient
and more dance/electronic.
