When I think back of  Thanksgiving in my child hood. I recall everything being home made. I remember the smell in the house as we were waking up Thanksgiving morning. We seemed to always have company on Thanksgiving. In fact we were hardly ever alone. My parents are the kind of people that believe this is the time of the year to make double sure that friends and family had enough. No one had a reason to be lonely unless they just chose to be.

This would be a special Thanksgiving. The first thing we would do is turn on the TV. We were the very first family on our street to have a colored television. The Thanksgiving parade would be extra special because we would all see the floats in their entire splendor for the very first time. In the early years they referred to this as Technicolor. I wish some of you could have been there to hear the opening remarks, "live and in color" they would proudly proclaim.

For those of us that spent most of our childhood watching black and white TV the delight of colored television was a big deal. It was the golden age of the greatest shows on earth. These shows will never be equaled and most of them are now enjoyed in repeats on "TV land".

I still get up Thanksgiving morning and turn on the TV. The parades are still a strong tradition of the day. Anticipation excites the hunger of turkey and all the trimmings.

My gift reminds me that life is full of first times. Do you remember the first time you were called on to wait on the Lord's Supper Table? Do you recall the fist time you prayed publicly? Do you remember the excitement on the day you decided to become a Christian?

"I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done." - Psalm 143: 5

There are still many first moments to experience. This Thanksgiving make a memory and thank God for memories of the past.  It just might add a little Technicolor to your life.

Have a great Week.   Love in Christ, Rick Woodall
