We arrived at the train station about 90 minutes before the train was due to leave and had a quick breakfast. Our train pulled in around 9:15am and we boarded and got ready for the departure. Around 10am the train pulled out of the station ... this was the only day that we got to see Table Mountain!
As the train was not too full, we were upgraded to a 4 person compartment, which allowed us to spread out a bit (as well as both sleep at ground level ... no climbing into upper bunks!).
The dining car was three coaches forward of where we were sleeping and was a nice place to view the passing scenery (bigger windows). We passed the time by playing cards and doing puzzles. All the meals were served on china and the staff on the train were very friendly and helpful ... taking the train was worth the experience. After 29 hours, we arrived in Pretoria Station (about 1 hour late) and were met by Lou and Alan (Robert's aunt and uncle).
