Christian Education programs at
First Presbyterian Church of Utica provides youth,
and adult with opportunities to develop and nurture a closer
personal relationship with Christ through a variety of means,
including Bible study, discussion, sharing, fellowship and
prayer.
|
Children
attend the beginning of the worship service with their parents
and then invited to come forward to join in a children's
sermon and prayer before leaving for church school.
- Sunday
School:
Sunday School is intended for children ages 10 and
under. They learn through the use of song, crafts
and play to explore the same Biblical text(s) and themes
being lifted up during that days Worship service.
Classes are taught by several talented volunteers from the
congregation.
- Junior
Youth:
The Junior Youth group (ages 11 to 15) meet in a
classroom setting during church. Learning
comes through studying various stories of the Bible,
discussing morality and introduction to some of the
languages used the Bible (Hebrew, Greek, Roman/Latin).
- Senior
Youth:
The Senior Youth group (ages 16 and up) generally
meets one evening a week. They typically meet in
small groups over dinner or a snack and talk about Life,
God, Politics or anything else that may come up.
|
Our adult education program includes
small groups which meet either in the church or in
homes. Recently groups have studied Peacemaking, The
Liturgical Season of Advent, The Liturgical Season of Lent,
Life Giving Stories based on four transformative gospel
stories, and the following books: The Heart of Christianity
by Marcus Borg, Meeting Moses on the Freeway by
Chris Hedges, and Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell.
