The Exhaust Repair

This is just a quick page with a couple of notes, for those in need of replacing their riser/mixer.
The work is described below.

The elbow was difficult to remove. Chain wrenches could not provide enough leverage in the limited space to unthread the components. Turens out everything back to the maifold needed replacing. I ended up using an elbow and a threaded nipple instead of a street elbow. This allowed me to properly align the elbow and moved the elbow back about one inch. All the new components were in the order of $350. The elbow itself was @ $200, I think, and the flange was @$100. The coupler was $20-30. The various other parts were about $25. Other than the Saturday spent getting the old one out, time to install was less than 1 hour. All parts sealed with TFE paste. Tighten as much as possible. hopefully you will be able to get it tighter than I have been able to do.

From this view, you can see the new hose, which is a short piece of standard hose. The moulded hose that goes in that place is no longer available, and is too short for the new configuration. I need to figure out how to keep the elbow in place, as underway it will vibrate to about a 20 degree list to port. The street elbow would not work as well. If you have pipe threading tools, tapping out the exhaust flange would probably work. I expect that I will fasten some sort of strap to keep it completely vertical.
