Simplifying Expressions Containing Complex
Numbers
Complex numbers of the form a + bi
and a - bi are called conjugates
of each other. Notice that the product of complex conjugates is always a real
number.
Sometimes rational expressions contain complex
numbers. Since i represents a radical, rational numbers are usually
written without imaginary numbers in the denominator. As with radicals, the
denominator should be rationalized.
